Afikpo, Ebonyi State: In a significant political development ahead of the forthcoming elections, stakeholders across the Afikpo bloc of Ebonyi State have unanimously endorsed two prominent sons of the area for key legislative positions, signaling a renewed push for equitable representation and political consolidation within the Ebonyi South Senatorial District.

The endorsement was the outcome of a high-level meeting involving political leaders, community elders, youth representatives, women groups and party stakeholders, who converged to deliberate on the future of Afikpo’s political interests. At the end of the deliberations, the gathering adopted a consensus decision to support Mr. Ahamefula Akụma for the Senate and Mr. Oboti Ifeanyichukwu Princewill for the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, stakeholders emphasized the need to address what they described as longstanding concerns over political imbalance within the Ebonyi South Senatorial District. They noted that the Afikpo bloc, despite its size and contributions, has not received commensurate representation in key political offices. According to the communiqué, “This endorsement is a collective resolve to reposition Afikpo within the political framework of the state and ensure that our people are adequately represented at all levels of governance.”
This stand automatically made Akụma to get nod for Senate Seat. In this recent development, Mr. Ahamefula Akụma, a Lagos-based businessman, emerged as the consensus candidate for the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat. Stakeholders described him as a seasoned entrepreneur with a strong track record in business, community development and philanthropy. They expressed confidence in his ability to bring private-sector expertise into legislative governance, particularly in driving economic growth, attracting investment and facilitating youth empowerment across the senatorial district.
“Mr. Akụma possesses the experience, vision, and network required to effectively represent Ebonyi South at the National Assembly,” one of the stakeholders noted during the meeting.
In the same vein, Princewill Oboti was endorsed for State Assembly, for the Afikpo North West State Constituency seat in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, stakeholders endorsed Mr. Oboti Ifeanyichukwu Princewill, an Abuja-based entrepreneur and the Chief Executive of Cyvenda Global Resources, a company known for its involvement in musical instruments and household utensils distribution.
Describing him as energetic and forward-looking, the stakeholders highlighted Princewill’s commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment. They noted that his candidacy represents a new wave of leadership driven by innovation, enterprise and service.
“Princewill’s emergence reflects the aspirations of our young people and the need for a representative who understands the realities of modern economic challenges,” the communiqué added.
The stakeholders underscored the importance of unity among the people of Afikpo, urging all political actors, community groups, and residents to rally behind the endorsed candidates. They stressed that consensus remains the most effective strategy for achieving electoral success and strengthening the bloc’s bargaining power.
They also called on party faithful, traditional institutions and the Afikpo diaspora to support the candidates through mobilization, advocacy and sustained engagement.
Observers believe the endorsement marks a turning point in Afikpo’s political trajectory, reflecting a deliberate effort to reclaim influence and ensure balanced representation within Ebonyi State’s governance structure.
With the elections drawing closer, the spotlight will now be on how effectively the stakeholders can translate this consensus into electoral victory.
For many in the district, the endorsement of Akụma and Princewill is more than a political decision, it is a statement of unity, purpose and determination to shape the future of Afikpo and the broader Ebonyi South Senatorial District. Fortunately, both preferred candidates are running under the umbrella of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
