In the chronicles of Nigerian traditional leadership, few names embody wisdom, humility and service like His Royal Majesty, Ambassador Sabo Fyenu (JP), the revered Esu Kodape in Karu Kingdom, Nasarawa State. The monarch we discuss was born in 1919 and his century-long journey stands as a testament to character, perseverance and divine grace. He lives a life defined by vision, compassion and selfless dedication to his people.
From humble beginnings, His Majesty’s early life as a farmer, hunter and businessman instilled in him the virtues of hard work and integrity. Though his formal education was limited as he attained only adult education, his innate intelligence and sense of purpose earned him the admiration of his peers. At age of 43, following his uncle’s passing, he became Ward Head, beginning a distinguished path in traditional governance. His fairness and humility endeared him to his community, leading to his appointments as Village Head in 1974 and later District Head in 2001 under Governor Abdullahi Adamu.
A historic milestone came on May 27, 2019, when Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura created Kodape as a Kingdom, recognizing His Majesty’s decades of peace and unity. In 2023, Governor Engr. A. A. Sule elevated the Kodape Chiefdom to Third-Class Status, a crowning honour for the monarch’s visionary leadership and community transformation.
Throughout his reign, Ambassador Fyenu has stood as a pillar of justice and peace, fostering harmony among diverse ethnic and religious groups. His commitment to dialogue and reconciliation has made Kodape a beacon of stability and brotherhood. Beyond his kingdom, his service as Justice of the Peace and Ambassador for Peace has projected the values of tolerance, compassion, and unity on national and international platforms.
A tireless advocate for education, youth empowerment and rural development, His Majesty has championed initiatives that uplift women, support the less privileged, and promote sustainable livelihoods. His belief that knowledge and inclusivity build a prosperous society continues to inspire generations.
Today, as Ambassador Sabo Fyenu (JP) is honoured with the Legends’ Youth Vanguard Award, the accolade celebrates not just longevity but a lifetime of faith, fortitude, and leadership. To his people, he remains a father and mentor, a man whose wisdom has guided his kingdom with patience, justice, and grace.
May the reign of His Royal Majesty, the venerable Esu Kodape, continue to be blessed with peace, prosperity, and divine favor, a living legacy of leadership grounded in humility, love, and purpose.
